Wave pools

Construction of pools with wave generation systems and installation of the equipment.

How the wave is produced

A wave pool has a wave chamber at the deep end. Compressed air is released into the water at intervals and the resulting push produces a wave that travels the length of the pool. Wave height and frequency depend on the capacity of that system.

The shape of the pool

The floor slopes from the deep end up to the shallow end. The wave rises as it travels towards the shallow side and breaks there, so pool length and floor gradient directly govern how the wave behaves. The shape is not an architectural preference; it is a condition of the system working.

Plant space

A separate plant volume is needed for the wave chamber, the compressor and filtration. If that space is not planned at the outset it is difficult to resolve later.

Safety

Water movement in the shallow zone increases while the waves run. Controlled entry, an announced wave cycle and a clearly marked shallow end are treated as part of the design.

Sequence

These pools are built on a reinforced concrete shell; the construction order is the same, with the wave system and its automation added on top.
