Landscape architecture

Garden and hard landscaping around the pool.

Around the pool

The work does not end when the pool does: the surrounding paving, planting and circulation determine how the pool is used day to day. A non-slip surface on wet ground is a safety requirement, not a plain preference.

Hard landscaping

Coping, terrace paving and walkways are considered as one system with the pool. How the paving behaves when wet, how hot it gets in the sun and the joint spacing all govern the choice of material.

Drainage

If you do not resolve at the outset where splash and rainwater will go, water pools on the ground and the surface settles over time. Falls and drainage runs are planned before the paving goes down.

Planting

Leaf fall and root behaviour matter for anything planted at the pool edge. Species that shed heavily block the skimmer constantly; species with spreading roots can lift the paving.

Lighting and shade

When garden lighting, a pergola and shade structures are designed together with the pool, the electrical and fixing works do not have to be cut back in afterwards.
